Wendy Dubit is founder of the way cool website The Senses Bureau (go to www.thesensesbureau.com) and founder of Vergant Media (www.vergant.com) has served as editor-in-chief of "Friends of Wine" and "Wine Enthusiast" magazines, among numerous other accolades. She writes and speaks about wine, food, lifestyle and leads tastings worldwide. In Kevin Zraly's book "Windows On The World Complete Wine Course, 2007 Edition", Wendy contributes to a chapter on wine smelling. I absolutely LOVE the following story she tells:(more) "As a teen, I was invited to the 'openings' of my parent's dinner parties, where my dad, who delighted in all things Burgundy and Bordeaux, would offer me a small pour of wine and ask for my olfactory impressions. I'll always remember the evening I discovered a marriage of river rocks, wet leather from the underside of a saddle, hay flecked with wildflowers, and golden apples in a single pour. "Ah," Dad said, nodding in encouragement, "Puligny-Montrachet." And I laughed because the name itself was as delightfully poetic to my ear as the wine had been to my nose and mouth. Even though those youthful days were rich with honest smell - kitchen, backyard, woods, stream, and farm - I'll always remember being most awed by the abundant and complex smells I found in a single glass of wine."
